Brokeback Mountain Trivia

Brain Snacks: Tasty Tidbits of Knowledge

The movie version of Brokeback Mountain was a sure favorite to win Best Picture in 2005. Instead, it lost to Crash, in a move widely regarded as an expression of homophobia by Academy voters. The irony? Crash spends a lot of time talking about how awful prejudice and intolerance was. (Source.)

Proulx lists a whole bunch of places in Wyoming: "Big Horns, Medicine Bows, south end of the Gallatins, Absarokas, Granites, Owl Creeks, the Bridger-Teton Range, the Freezeouts and the Shirleys, Ferrises and the Rattlesnakes, Salt River Range, into the Wind Rivers over and again, the Sierra Madres, Gros Ventres, the Washakies, Laramies…" (95). They're all real places… except for Brokeback. It's interesting since Brokeback seems to be a bit of a fantasy for Jack and Ennis, one that none of the other places they visit can match.
