Professor Foulbody

Character Analysis

Professor Foulbody is foul indeed. He's "a famous English scientist," who invents a machine that "would tell you at once, without opening the wrapper of a bar of chocolate, whether or not there was a Golden Ticket hidden underneath it" (6.6). While that's rather ingenious (and lazy, we'd like to point out), his invention backfires when his precious machine ends up punching a duchess with a gold tooth in the face. We like to think that this means that Foulbody, like Prince Pondicherry and many other minor characters in the book, is eventually getting his comeuppance for being greedy.
