Lin Timeline and Summary

  • We first meet Lin at the beginning of Act 2. She's sitting on a park bench and trying (but failing) to get her daughter Cathy under control. Eventually she tells Cathy to sit quietly and paint a picture of a car crash with lots of blood. Already we can see that Lin is a modern woman and has very little in common with the women we saw in Act 1 of the play.
  • Lin starts trying to talk to Victoria about life issues and gets frustrated when Victoria won't look up from her book.
  • Lin finally admits that she's a lesbian. Victoria doesn't seem surprised, although she says Lin shouldn't be thankful for being alone.
  • Lin asks Victoria out to a movie, and Victoria agrees. She doesn't seem to realize yet, though, that Lin is romantically interested.
  • Finally, Lin comes out and asks Victoria to have sex. Victoria doesn't say yes, but she doesn't really say no either.
  • Later on, Lin, Victoria, and Edward go into the park to have a midnight orgy. They invite along anyone who's interested. At one point, though, the ghost of Lin's dead brother shows up and gives a speech about how much he wishes he could have had more sex while he was in the army.
  • When the orgy is over, Lin, Victoria, and Edward decide to live together.
