Damask is the code name of the eighty-three-year-old rose grower the Resistance circuit is named for: "The old woman—I should say elderly, not old. She is a refined sort of person—" (2.18.40). She comforts Maddie after the ambush on the prisoner van, telling her they are alike. It turns out she is Julie's great-aunt, who shot her terminally ill husband when he was suffering but not (yet) dying.
