Character Analysis
All we know about the Riddle family (besides the fact that they get murdered and that Voldemort is related to them) is hearsay from the villagers of Little Hangleton. The Riddles "had been most unpopular. Elderly Mr. and Mrs. Riddle had been rich, snobbish, and rude, and their grownup son, Tom, had been, if anything, worse" (1.5). This is clearly not the best family to be born into, especially if you're an unacknowledged wizard child.
