Henry VI Part 1 Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

PG-13

This play isn't the steamiest going by Shakespeare's standards, but you probably don't want to take your little brother or sister along to the theater, either. While most of the scenes feature bureaucratic squabbling, fighting with broadswords, or court discussions, there's definitely some smolder going on.

Depending on the director's choices for staging, the play can suggest that the French King and Joan are sleeping together (the text suggests this is possible, but doesn't give a firm answer). Lots of the French and English characters certainly think they are, and get endless joy out of cracking dirty jokes about it. Plus, Suffolk is definitely hankering to start an affair with Henry's fiancee, before they're even married. So it's not the cleanest play ever.
