Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)’s Timeline and Summary

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Katniss comforts her sister Primrose in District 12 following a nightmare.
  • She skirts past the (non-functional) electrified fence into the nearby forbidden woods to do some hunting and runs into Gale.
  • They talk about the Hunger Games, escaping the District, and how life seems to be tough all over for people in their shoes.
  • Primrose's name is chosen at the Reaping, and Katniss volunteers to take her place.
  • She and the male Tribute are whisked off to the Capitol via high-speed train. There, they meet Haymitch, District 12's only victor in the Hunger Games, who drinks a lot and advises them to accept their deaths.
  • They arrive at the Capitol and are greeted by cheering crowds.
  • Their costume designer, Cinna, designs a set of clothes for them that appears to burst into flames.
  • Katniss and Peeta wear the outfits for the initial parade, leading media gadfly Caesar Flickerman to dub her "The Girl on Fire."
  • She trains for the Games, and impresses the judges by shooting an arrow through an apple in the mouth of their roast pig.
  • She and Peeta are interviewed by Caesar, and she impresses the crowd even more with her fashion sense and straight talk.
  • She pounds Peeta after Peeta confesses on TV to being in love with her.
  • When the starting bell goes off, she nabs a backpack full of survival gear and stays out of sight in the woods.
  • She survives a bunch of challenges, including hallucinogenic bee stings, and forges an alliance with Rue.
  • After Rue's death, The Capitol provides a promise to Katniss: if the last two people are from the same District, they will both be declared winners.
  • She soon finds Peeta, wounded, but camouflaging himself to avoid detection.
  • Katniss heads to the cornucopia to get medicine for Peeta, where a Career almost kills her. She and a recovered Peeta emerge to face the rest of the competitors.
  • Katniss and Peeta flee to the cornucopia, where the last survivor, Cato is waiting, and after a short, brutal struggle Cato's thrown to the dogs.
  • Katniss and Peeta get a last nasty message: the rules have been changed back and they need to kill each other now.
  • They decide to eat the poison berries together instead of killing each other.
  • The Capitol backs off and allows them both to survive.
  • They emerge victorious, but Haymitch warns them that their antics with the berries have made powerful enemies in the Capitol.
  • To be continued…
