What Dreams May Come
There's a bit of magical realism in Dominick's occasional dreams. When he falls asleep at the wheel of his truck, he dreams of his dead grandmother "alive, under the ice" (27.41)—this is before he learns that his grandmother killed herself by drowning herself in a frozen over lake.
Reading his grandfather's memoir, he learns that his great-grandmother was also troubled by "strange dreams" (31.6). Does this make Dominick just as crazy as Thomas, or is it okay for Dominick because his dreams are true? Perhaps what dreams represent in this book is the little bit of madness in each of us.
