Sure, Corinna has some minor dramas with her friends and her dad, but life wouldn't be miserable if cancer hadn't come along and stolen her mom practically overnight. Every minute of her day is colored by the experience of losing a parent, and trying to get through the usual trials and travails of junior high is an even bigger challenge because she has the added struggle of not crying at school. Corinna feels death lurking around every corner, just waiting to snatch her—or, worse yet, her dad. It's enemy number one in her life.
