Aeson in Jason: Birth and Early Adventures

Aeson in Jason: Birth and Early Adventures

Aeson, King of Iolcus, is most famous for being the father of his famous son, Jason. He gets kicked off his throne by his half-brother, Pelias, and spends most of his time in a dungeon. According to some, Pelias eventually convinces Aeson to kill himself by lying and saying that Jason failed in his quest. This makes Aeson seem kind of like King Aegeus, who kills himself when he mistakenly thinks that his son, Theseus, has died in his quest to slay the Minotaur. In other versions of the story, Aeson lives to the end, and is made young again by Jason's sorceress wife, Medea.
