The thing about children's poems is that they're written so that children can understand them. Granted, 18th century children used their "thees" and "thous" more than today's brood do, but the message of the poem is clear as day: lambs have nice wool and tender voices, and they're a symbol for Jesus, to boot. The best way to complicate this poem is to place it alongside other works from the Songs of Innocence and Experience, particularly "The Tyger."
