Piggy

Piggy just wants to be accepted, and he clings to Ralph even when Ralph is—we'll say it—kind of mean to him. And the ironic part is that Ralph really does need Piggy, as do all the other boys. They need his glasses, his brains, and his voice of reason. Ralph may not want to admit it, but he ends up valuing the "fat boy" (1.12). At the end, he weeps for Piggy not as a sidekick, not as a lackey, but as a "true, wise friend."
