Character Role Analysis

Bob and Charlotte

Bob and Charlotte are kindred spirits. They've both checked out of everyday life; they feel restless and lost—Bob because life’s getting old, and Charlotte because it’s new and confusing. They both also like to drink spirits, so if you like your descriptions literal, there's that, too.

When Bob and Charlotte team up and start talking about their hopes, fears, and insecurities, they complement one another. Charlotte helps Bob figure out what he wants out of his life's third act. If you're keeping track at home, he wants to take better care of himself and be in the moment again.

In turn, Bob gives Charlotte advice about marriage and kids because he's been there, done that, and she's got lots of questions. Sadly, the first one isn't "Why does my husband wear so many sweatbands?"
