Thursday Afternoon
January 7, 1971
- Abby is staying with Lily Norene and her daughters while she heals, feeding the girls and telling them stories, much to their delight.
- Abby goes to check on Lily and see if she needs anything, and Lily says she'd like some jam to go with her bread. She insists upon getting it for herself, saying she could use the exercise.
- Down to the cellar she goes, only to find that much of the food she's canned and put up is missing. She realizes her horrendous husband has not only been cheating on her, he's been stealing their food to bring to his mistress, too. Needless to say, Lily's not exactly pleased.
- And then, out of nowhere, Lily suffers a stroke, dragging herself back up into the house only to lie in bed for days and then die.
