Metrical Feet

(5) Tree Line

All right, let's face it: "Metrical Feet" isn't the easiest poem in the world. For one thing, it uses all kinds of terms that look pretty strange. Plus, without a little background on meter (especially Greek meter), it can be a bit tough to know just what Coleridge's getting at with all this "long" and "short" business. And on top of that, the poem contains some strange sentences (especially in the second stanza) that are a little hard to figure out. It's not impossible, but it takes a little effort, and a bit of research. We promise – it's totally worth it.
