Harry Houdini Timeline and Summary

  • Houdini is riding through New Rochelle when his automobile strikes a telephone pole in front of the family's house. He goes in the house, does tricks and drinks lemonade with the family.
  • At the Tombs, the same prison where Harry K. Thaw is being held, Houdini tests a pair of leg irons and escapes from them. Harry K. Thaw mocks Houdini during the stunt.
  • Houdini goes on a European tour. While there he learns to fly, meets Archduke Ferdinand and his mother dies.
  • Houdini returns to the U.S. after learning of his mother's death. He tries to contact her through mediums and spiritualists but ends up exposing them as frauds instead.
  • His act becomes more and more dangerous, frightening the crowd. One day there is an explosion at the end of a performance—the work of Coalhouse and his gang blowing up a nearby firehouse.
  • Houdini does an escape trick while hanging upside down above Times Square. As he performs the trick he thinks of the Little Boy's reflection in the headlamp of his motorcar.
