'Salem's Lot Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

R

There's way more violence than sex in 'Salem's Lot, but still, what with all the pages and kinky evil vampires and surreptitiously kinky local townsfolk, it manages to get in enough to make it to R on steaminess alone. Ben has sex with Susan on the grass in a sweet small-town wholesome love kind of way, though it's not described in detail.

Decidedly unwholesome vampire seductiveness causes an erection or two: Jimmy gets an erection when Mrs. Glick bites him, for example (11.354). But the most explicit sex is the adulterous affair between Bonnie Sawyer and Corey Bryant, which includes bare breasts, an almost-but-not-quite description of oral sex, and the use of the C-word (10.259) by husband Reggie.

Reggie gets punished for using bad words, though. And Ben and Susan get punished for having wholesome relations, and Jimmy gets punished for erecting. That's the beauty of horror: steaminess always leads to losing your soul.
