- In the end, nine people die in the cholera epidemic.
- Karla stays to help for six days. When it's over, Lin is out of money, so he heads out to the street to make some commissions on black-market deals.
- While he's out, he runs into Vikram and they grab a cane juice together.
- They dance to a song on the radio and, when they're through, see Lettie watching them. She tells them that Karla is stranded at the Taj Hotel because of floods from the heavy rains.
- Lin jumps into Prabaker's cousin Shantu's taxi and heads to the fishermen's settlement next to the slum. He gets a friend to lend him a boat, and they pole up the road to the Taj.
- Karla comes out and gets in, and Vinod, the fisherman, takes them to dry land.
- She gets into a taxi, and Lin finds Shantu and gets into his taxi. As he sits, he notices Rajan, Madame Zhou's creepy servant, staring at him.
- Lin goes back into town that night to get some rest in a hotel and to take a real shower.
- The manager, Anand, asks Lin for help. An Italian tourist has overdosed in a room, which is very bad for business.
- Lin does CPR and the guy finally comes back to life.
- He showers, shaves, and goes back down into the street. Ulla pulls up in a taxi, begging Lin for help.
- He gets in. She asks Lin to meet her at one in the morning at Leopold's, because she's in trouble.
- Lin promises to meet her.
- He gets out of the taxi and takes a walk that turns into a run. He ends up outside Karla's. He sees her in the doorway in a nightgown, and she walks out into the rain to him. They kiss in the street and go in to her bed.
- After they get it on, Lin realizes he's late to meet Ulla and jumps to run. This is irritating for Karla, understandably.
- As he runs through the streets, he is suddenly surrounded by cops and thrown into a jeep.
- He is taken to the police station, where he is beaten and put into a cell.
