Andrew Jackson Timeline and Summary

  • Andy and Robbie talk in the locker room after the big game. They won—everyone is super excited, so they decide to hit the town looking for a good time. They invite B.J., Tyrone, and Gerald, but Gerald has to head home.
  • The more they drink their beers, the more the car starts to sway, and eventually, the boys crash into a wall. Andy, B.J., and Tyrone manage to get out, but Robbie is pinned down when the car bursts into flames.
  • Andy and the boys are questioned by the police, and Andy is given a suspended sentence. The judge knows he was drinking and driving, but the guy's still in high school, so he doesn't head to jail.
  • Andy feels like the judge went too easy on him—he wishes his sentence were more severe.
  • Back at school, Andy talks to his coach about what's happened. He blames himself for Robbie's death, and wishes he'd been punished more.
  • He starts to play basketball again, and now that he's team captain, plays even better than before. Things are slowly getting back to normal, except Andy doesn't want to hang with the guys anymore; he usually just talks to Keisha.
  • Andy starts going to a therapist, and while he doesn't want to go, the shrink turns out to be pretty cool, so he puts up with it.
  • One day at the mall, Andy and Keisha are having fun looking at Christmas gifts and messing around. When Andy sees Santa, he flips out and then gets all mopey and depressed because it reminds him of Rob.
  • He tells the shrink about his run-in with Santa, and the doc says he should write his feelings in a letter to Rob's parents. Andy does, and Rob's mom cries and hugs him for it.
  • Andy and Keisha go to see the place where the car crashed, and Andy is surprised by how small the wall is. He feels badly about the crash and wants to kill himself, but Keisha pulls him back from doing so.
  • Even though Andy still feels guilty, the shrink thinks he's getting more stable. He's not suicidal anymore, so they agree to talk when Andy feels down, but aside from that, he's free to get back to his life.
  • Andy's grades are slipping and he's not passing his classes, so Andy doesn't want to keep going to school. He feels like no one understands him anymore.
  • At the talent show, Keisha dumps Andy after he makes a fool of himself stripping on stage. She's sick of being the only person he can turn to, and she's had enough.
  • Andy is heartbroken and thinks about suicide again. He calls Keisha one night, but she is already asleep; then he calls his shrink and coach, neither of whom answer.
  • He thinks no one cares about him and feels too guilty about what's happened, so he commits suicide.
