Character Role Analysis

Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Creed

These two mothers are as different as apples and, er, broccoli. Mrs. Adams is kind, even-keeled, patient, and quiet. She gives Torey his space and freedom to live his own life, money to spend at the Wawa, and generally supports him in becoming his own person.

Mrs. Creed, however, does the opposite with Chris. She is loud and commanding at home, controlling everywhere he went and what and when he did things (before he up and left, that is). She picked out the décor for his bedroom, refused to allow him any privacy (even barging in on him while he was undressed), and refused to recognize his social troubles at school. She keeps her children tightly caged, so much so that Chris stealthily flies to coop.
