Timeline & Summary

  • Dinah is born to Leah, becoming the only daughter to Jacob.
  • Dinah gets to hang around with her aunties and her mother, even in the red tent where women bleed and share stories.
  • Basically, Dinah is treated like a queen.
  • Then, one day, Jacob and Laban get in a huge fight, so Dinah travels to Canaan with the rest of her family.
  • At Canaan, Dinah meets her cousin, Tabea.
  • But then the fam moves to Succoth, where Dinah spends two years taking care of the children of bondwomen and stuff like that.
  • Jacob's family is invited to the barley festival, which is headed by his mother, Rebecca.
  • Dinah's not a huge fan of her grandmother, especially because she curses her cousin, Tabea.
  • Everyone leaves Grandma's house but Dinah: instead, Dinah needs to stay three more months.
  • Dinah suffers through the three months, then moves back in with her family.
  • Then it's moving time again—this time to Shechem.
  • In Shechem, Dinah meets a boy named Shalem in the city and instantly falls in love.
  • Shalem is a prince, and he and Dinah eventually get it on.
  • But Jacob doesn't like Shalem's father, King Hamor, so he is hesitant to let Dinah marry.
  • Eventually, Jacob demands that the Shechem men be circumcised as the bride-price.
  • Dinah's all like, Dad, you're embarrassing me in front of my new friends.
  • But the Shechem people oblige.
  • Pretty soon, Dinah wakes up next to Shalem. He's been killed in his sleep by Dinah's brothers, Simon and Levi.
  • Dinah's then kidnapped by Simon and Levi and brought back to Jacob's camp.
  • Dinah's suicidal at this point and plans to run to Shechem. She is found by the queen's guard and put into the safety of the queen.
  • Queen Re-nefer and Dinah then move to Egypt to live with the Re-nefer's brother, Nakht-re.
  • There, Dinah lives pretty happily, and she gives birth to a baby boy: Re-mose.
  • Years fly by, and Re-mose leaves, which makes Dinah all sad-face.
  • Dinah meets a carpenter named Benia at the marketplace and totally digs him, but she leaves.
  • Back in Egypt, Dinah and her friend Meryt work as midwives, and they become pretty famous.
  • Re-nefer and Nakht-re die, so Dinah moves in with Meryt in the Valley of the Kings.
  • Dinah works as a midwife there, too, and Benia shows up at the house.
  • Things escalate pretty quickly, and soon enough Dinah's married to Benia.
  • One day, Re-mose shows up at Dinah's door asking for a favor: he needs her to help his master's wife deliver a baby.
  • Turns out the master is Joseph, her younger brother who was sold into slavery. Awkward.
  • So Re-mose finds out about his father and how he was killed, and he gets pretty darn mad.
  • Dinah's able to talk Joseph into giving her son a place to live north by the river.
  • Dinah then goes back and lives with Benia happily, until Joseph shows up at her door.
  • Joseph begs Dinah to go visit Jacob, who's dying.
  • Dinah agrees and goes with Joseph. Once there, she doesn't interact with anyone; she just witnesses everything going on.
  • Finally, Dinah leaves and lives pretty much happily ever after with Benia until she dies.
