The Queen and the Loathly Lady

The queen and the loathly lady really get in the knight's way. The queen won't let him rape a woman with impunity. The loathly lady won't let him out of that promise he made to her. Ever heard the saying, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"? Well it's kind of the same thing with these antagonists; they're incredibly annoying to the knight, but, in the end, they help him on his way to personal growth and a reformed attitude toward women. The question arises: Are we even justified in calling them antagonists?
