What's Up With the Ending?
The movie closes with a nice little wrap-up. All the toys have arrived safely in Andy's new house and everyone is settled in for the holidays. Everything is clearly merry and bright and resolved, plot-wise.
The Christmas morning scene at the end can be compared with Andy's birthday party at the beginning of the movie. By all rights, the toys should be freaking out about getting replaced by newer and cooler playthings…but they actually seem pretty psyched about getting some new friends.
Even Woody and Buzz have buried the hatchet:
WOODY: Buzz. Buzz Lightyear. You are not worried, are you?
BUZZ: Me? No, no, no, no… Are you?
WOODY: Now Buzz, what could Andy possibly get that is worse than you?!
ANDY: Oh, what is it? What is it? Wow! A puppy!
Yup, change can be tough, but these guys have totally embraced it. Also, this ending totally leaves the door open for a sequel…or three.
