Baseball legend Babe Ruth was born in Baltimore on this day in 1895. If you think of the Great Bambino every time you bite into a Baby Ruth candy bar, think again: the candy bar was named after former President Grover Cleveland's daughter, "Baby" Ruth Cleveland. At least that's what the Curtiss Candy Company claimed when Babe Ruth accused them of using his name. Given that "Baby" Ruth had died of diphtheria as child, sixteen years before the candy bar came out, it sounds like Curtiss Candy is full of it. And we don't mean nougat.
