The Rosetta Stone was found in Egypt on this day in 1799. No, not the expensive computer software—the giant rock that helped us understand Ancient Egyptian. Ever since the stone's rediscovery by a French soldier, Egypt, France, and Great Britain have fought over who gets to display it. Currently, the Rosetta stone calls the British Museum home—and in three different languages: Greek, Demotic, and the aforementioned hieroglyphics.
