mar 27 Learn More First NCAA Men's Basketball Championship
The first ever NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament came to a close on this day in 1939 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. While the inaugural tournament only included eight teams, that was enough to give amateur hoops fans a severe case of March Madness. The University of Oregon Webfoots won the championship that year; you probably know them better today as the Ducks.
