President Ronald Reagan survived an assassination attempt by John Hinckley, Jr., on this day in 1981. Hinckley thought that murdering the president would impress Jodie Foster, whom he had been stalking for some time. Um… okay? Predictably, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Predictably #2, this ticked a lot of people off. Like a lot a lot. So in 1984, the Insanity Defense Reform Act was passed, the terms of which made it harder to get a "not guilty by reason of insanity" verdict. So if you're thinking about trying to get out of gym by acting crazy, look that bad boy over.
