Are you of the legal working age? Cool, you're in. It's pretty much that simple. A GED or high school education usually helps...but as far as knowledge of espresso drinks goes, that's all done in on-the-job training. If you have experience with coffee-making beforehand, though, it's a huge plus. You can buy that experience with barista classes (yes, we're serious), but those can cost $1,400–$4,000 (source). It's not like you'll be earning that money back getting minimum wage as a barista. If you have good communication and customer service skills and can stand to stand for hours at a time, you're all set (source).
