Remember the 2008 financial crisis? A lot of industries took a major hit (looking at you, construction). Beauty salons, on the other hand, declined significantly less than the overall private sector and bounced back quickly. Suffice to say that people are going to need to get their hair cut and nails done, so as long as you can chug along on the less-than-stellar salary, you should be able to hang on for quite a while.
