Odds of Hanging On
Some professions may have thousands of qualified applicants sitting at home trolling through LinkedIn, CraigsList, and UnemployedJobs trying to find the one or two openings that come along every other blue moon. Cancer biology is not one of those professions.
If you've gotten far enough to the point where you have a gosh darn doctorate in cancer biology, there's little chance you'll lose a job due to anything besides budget cuts, and there's no chance you won't get hired at some research institute somewhere. The work you do is just too important to let your brain sit at home and waste away watching Netflix.
