20-Year Prospect

On the one hand, there's really no reason for glass to go out of style. Although there are lots of imitators out there—from polycarbonate to plastic to acrylic (a.k.a. Plexiglass) to gelatin (a.k.a. horse hooves)—people all over the world still prefer the real thing. And as far as artistry's concerned, someone somewhere will have the tools necessary to make something fancy and then try to sell it.

On the other hand, this is very much a manufacturing gig, and that means machines are taking more and more jobs. The job outlook's fairly negative, and has been for several years (source). Does this mean you won't have success in the career? Not at all. It just means you'll be competing with things that don't eat or sleep or complain.

Don't give up; as The Matrix shows us, we can beat the machines.
