Physical Danger

Physical Danger

There's something incredibly ironic about a TV reporter standing in the middle of a hurricane saying something like, "Local officials have recommended that anyone in the area go home and stay indoors." Reporting live from war zones, natural disasters, and the Hamster, Kentucky Shoofly Pie County Bake-Off can be harrowing experiences fraught with personal risk.

Sure, the news studios are in the business of keeping their reporters safe and unharmed, but things can always go wrong. Especially when you're covering dangerous topics in dangerous areas.

Most TV reporters, however, end up sticking mostly to smaller, local coverage involving politics, traffic, mild weather, and crime scenes long out of the danger zone. For them, it's a relatively safe job apart from the occasional stealthy lion or unruly chicken.
