General quality of life statement

Plant science is not the sort of major that makes people wonder if your life is as glamorous as that of an astronaut. Unfortunately, it just doesn't scream "exciting and out there." This actually stays pretty true from perception to reality, in that it's neither overwhelmingly amazing nor down-in-the-gutter boring. The truth is, if you finish college with this degree, you're looking at a pretty average outcome for the important stuff.

The satisfaction rate comes in at 62%, which is slightly above average for college graduates. The annual salary ($50,000) is slightly lower than most college grads, but not enough to raise eyebrows. So again, average.

It's almost as though qualities of this discipline were determined by a random guy on the street. When asked what his impression of "plant science" was, the guy just shrugged and said, "Meh," and so it was.

Average.

The take-away message here is that if you like it, do it. If you're not into it, do something else. We'll save the strong feelings for the astrophysics majors.
