Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes.

Last year, first graders got their hands on some inflectional endings. This year, they'll add some prefixes to the mix. When students are learning new prefixes like dis-, mis-, pre-, re-, and un-, make sure they aren't disjointed. They should be able to understand how these nifty letters can alter the meanings of second-grade level vocabulary words.
