Sorry to burst your bubble, but even as a starting soccer player for NCAA Division I, chances are you won't be a household name. Unlike football, you won't be playing to sellout stadiums or have your games broadcast on network TV (unless it's the championship, in which case it might have a shot on ESPN 17).

However, marque professional soccer players enjoy considerable fame, especially overseas and in the Southern Hemisphere. Soccer players in Brazil, Argentina, England, Italy, and Spain can sometimes be more influential than musicians and movie stars combined. In fact, they are often under huge amounts of pressure from fans and even their governments to win important games. So if you think you're good enough for the big leagues, start practicing your autograph.
