Speaker: Shaun

"Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over."

Take car. Go to mum's. Kill Phil, grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Context

This line is spoken by Shaun (played by Simon Pegg) in the film Shaun of the Dead, directed by Edgar Wright (2004).

Shaun is what some people would call a "manchild." His life consists of working a dead-end job at an electronics store, then coming home and playing video games with his friend Ed. His idea of a romantic date is taking his girlfriend Liz to the smoky, non-food serving pub, The Winchester. This is why she breaks up with him.

And then comes the zombie apocalypse.

Shaun and Ed have basically prepared for this their whole lives through their video games, and they stave off their attackers with cricket bats and vinyl records. But eventually, Shaun comes up with a real plan and leads his family, friend, ex-girlfriend, and her roommates to his happy place, which is—you guessed it—The Winchester.

Where you've heard it

If things are getting a little tense, this line brings everyone back to Earth. Plus Shaun of the Dead is a hilarious cult classic that you might've watched in high school or college.

Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have such a thing for pubs that they made a sci-fi comedy in 2013 called The World's End, that featured not one, but twelve pubs.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Everyone needs an occasional time out, so why not have it at a nice, cozy pub?
