Source: "Heal the World"

Speaker: Michael Jackson

"Heal the world, make it a better place."

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

Context

This line is from the song "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson from the album Dangerous (1992).

If we had just one wish, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. And that's pretty much what "Heal the World" is about.

This song is one long appeal to humanity, just begging us to be good and decent to each other. We sort of think that it should be played on repeat in the background during all U.N. meetings and peace negotiations. Hey, it could work.

Where you've heard it

You might hear folks talking about healing the world in one of two contexts. To some, it might seem a bit like "Kumbaya" hippie nonsense. To other people though (who don't like dying of preventable diseases or war or famine), healing the world seems like a pretty good idea.

In 1992, Michael Jackson founded the Heal the World Foundation, but it lost its nonprofit status in 2002. Bummer.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

If anyone tries to tell you that healing the world is pretentious, then they are dead wrong. Heal away, world-changers!
