Source: "Buddy Holly"

Speaker: Weezer

Oo-ee-oo, I look just like Buddy Holly.

Context

This line is from the song "Buddy Holly" by Weezer, from the album Weezer, a.k.a. The Blue Album (1994).

This is from the chorus of one of several hits off of Weezer's eponymous debut. (Sorry, but we just wanted an excuse to use the word eponymous.) Anyway, the song still rocks, which is fitting because it references another rock great, Buddy Holly. Mainly, the song's about how the speaker is kind of a dork and so is his girl, but it's all good because they've got each other.

Here's a link to the awesome video, directed by Spike Jonze, which plops the Weezer boys into an episode of Happy Days.

Where you've heard it

There is pretty high probability that you've heard this song on the radio sometime in your life, since it's still one of Weezer's biggest hits. You might've also tried your hand at playing the song on the video games Rock Band or Guitar Hero. If not, don't be intimidated. Weezer didn't get famous for their complex riffs.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Come on, it's The Blue Album we're talking about; it's not like it's one of the songs off of Pinkerton. (Sorry—that's a Weezer-geek joke.)
