Source: The annual convention of the California State Suffrage Association

Speaker: Susan B. Anthony

No man is good enough to govern any woman without her consent.

Context

This line was spoken by suffragist Susan B. Anthony at the annual convention of the California State Suffrage Association (July 3, 1895).

Before she was on the dollar coin for a couple of years, Susan B. Anthony was fighting for the rights of women by organizing the Woman's Loyal League and the National Woman Suffrage Association. She was once arrested for attempting to vote, but didn't live to see women legally get the right to vote in 1919. She delivered this inspirational line at a convention in 1895, a full 84 years before she appeared on a coin.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this from friends on Twitter who want a woman back on American currency. And not just a measly coin, but a real paper bill, ten bucks or more.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This quote is just as relevant today as it was in 1895.
