Speaker: Seinfeld Cast

"These pretzels are making me thirsty!"

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Context

This line is spoken by all four leads on Seinfeld—Kramer (Michael Richards), Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and George (Jason Alexander)—in the Seinfeld episode "The Alternate Side" (December 4, 1991).

Back before the media cared about Woody Allen's sexual abuse allegations, people wanted to be in a Woody Allen movie. Cosmo Kramer is no exception.

Not only does he earn a bit part in a Woody Allen movie, but he even gets a line. A line that demands emotion, gravitas, and…pretzels. Kramer's line is "These pretzels are making me thirsty," and all his pals want to tell him how to deliver it, as though it's on par with "Tomorrow is another day" from Gone With The Wind.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Where you've heard it

This line quickly became a Seinfeld catchphrase, appropriate to yell when you're angry, thirsty, or both.

Sometimes the pretzels really do make you thirsty.
