Character Role Analysis

The Chaplain/The Minister

The Chaplain and the Minister present us with two different methods of rehabilitating criminals. The Chaplain wants them to make the choice to be good. He does this by presenting them with two intangible consequences—be good and go to heaven, or be bad and go to hell. How's that for a choice?

The Minister, who's pushing the Ludovico technique, forces Alex to choose good. If he chooses bad, he gets sick and cannot function. The consequences are immediate instead of something Alex would have to wait until after death to find out if they're real.

Both men have the same goal, but they attempt to achieve it using different methods. Is either one more morally "right" than the other?
