Al Capone Does My Shirts Part 1, Chapter 16 Summary

Capone Washed Your Shirts

  • Moose is in a bad mood because it's Monday and he can't play ball. He's so grumpy, in fact, that he doesn't realize he's put on his first convict-washed shirt.
  • At breakfast, Mom doesn't say anything about there being extra shirts in their laundry.
  • On the boat, Piper is hauling three huge laundry bags. Mr. Trixle, a guard with a day off, asks them why they're bringing laundry to school, and Piper lies about it being a science project.
  • Moose has vowed to stay away from Piper and her laundry service, but at lunch, he ends up hanging around.
  • Scout is there and has good news: He was able to switch baseball day to Tuesday. Moose is thrilled.
  • For some reason, the customers seem upset that the shirts look… normal. What did they expect?
  • Most of the kids seem unimpressed and say they won't be doing it again.
