Frances (from the story Wunderkind) is called Bienchen—German for "little bee"—by her teacher. She's been taking piano lessons since she was a small child. But now, becoming an adolescent, she finds that her talents seem less impressive than they once did.
She struggles with feeling eclipsed by Heime, a fellow student, and criticized by her beloved teacher Mister Bilderbach.
