Death Comes for the Archbishop Book 6, Chapter 2 Summary

The Lady

  • Don Antonio Olivares has a really lavish funeral. But people aren't able to enjoy it because of the lawsuit that Antonio's brothers have lodged against Antonio's wife, Isabella.
  • Their main challenge is that Antonio's daughter, Señorita Inez, is too old to be Isabella's daughter. Let's not forget that Isabella is a beautiful woman who probably looks younger than she actually is.
  • So here's the problem: the only way Isabella can get her inheritance is to stand up in front of a court and tell everyone the truth about how old she is. She's so vain, though, that she'd rather give up her entire fortune than have to reveal this info.
  • Eventually, Bishop Latour convinces her to do the right thing. After all, it's not only her own inheritance that's at stake, but also the money that Don Antonio left for building Latour's new cathedral.
  • After the lawsuit is settled and Antonio's will is upheld, the folks in Santa Fe have another party (yeah, they tend to do that a lot). Let the tequila shots flow!
  • Latour actually walks in on this party by accident. But once he's there, he joins the fun and jokes with Isabella about her real age, hee hee hee.
