Character Role Analysis

Honoré Lachaille & Aunt Alicia/ Honoré and Madame Alvarez

Both Honoré and Alicia have had a string of romances and partied with the best of them. But while Alicia has aged and never leaves her house, Honoré continues to party like it's 1899 in the company of young women and a good bottle of wine.

Mamita and Honoré, former sweethearts, make a touching counterpoint in their charming duet, "I Remember It Well." He's vain and a bit self-delusional; he's had so many lovers that he misremembers almost every detail of their relationship. He's still running after the young girls and trying to make an impression. Madame Alvarez, however, knows who she is. She's calm and sensible; she remembers everything about her date with Honoré. She doesn't feel the need to impress him, but flatters his needy male ego anyway.
