- Next door, Mrs. Thompson (her name is Mae) is helping Big Russ clean off his face. Once they finish, they see their son Russell (a.k.a. Little Russ) emerge from his bedroom.
- Mr. Thompson asks him if he's excited for the big fishing trip, but Russell responds in the negative before entering the bathroom himself.
- Diane pulls her husband aside and explains that Li'l Russ just got cut from the football team. Big Russ is upset—football seems quite important to him.
- Back at the Szalinski household, the family is eating their breakfast. Well, kind of—it's too burnt for anyone but the dog to stomach it.
- Mr. Szalinski rushes off—he has a big conference. As he loads equipment into his car, however, his wife calls and he rushes back inside. And by rush, we mean, "walk very slowly."
- Diane Szalinski wishes Wayne (a.k.a. Mr. Szalinski) good luck at his conference. She'll be showing a house later today (she's a real estate agent) but she'll be home after that.
- That means the kids have to clean up the messy house.
