Horton Hears a Who! Theme of Friendship

We certainly wouldn't mind being friends with good ol' Horton. In fact, if there's one thing we could say for certain about the star of Horton Hears a Who!, it's that he's an awfully good friend, even to a speaking speck of dust that he's just met. Before their official introductions are even over, Horton has agreed to help protect the Whos—and he sticks by his promise through thick and thin, even when it means having to go through (literally) millions of clovers to find them again.

Questions and Answers

Questions the little ones might ask and how you might respond

Q: Why is Horton such a good friend?
A: We're pretty sure it's just in his genes. Or maybe he knows what it's like to be thought of as small (even when you're huge!), so he wants to help these little guys out.

Q: How can the Whos trust him?
A: Why wouldn't they? He's clearly a very nice guy. And just because he's about a zillion times bigger than him, they're not judging.

Q: Why doesn't Horton fight with the kangaroo at the end?
A: Just because the kangaroo was mean to Horton, doesn't mean Horton is going to be mean back. He's the bigger creature—figuratively, we mean.
