- While Jim's waiting outside, he keeps checking his watch and wondering if Christine will actually show up.
- A cab pulls up more quickly than he expected; but he can't run the risk of losing the only cab.
- He walks up to it and the cabbie asks for the name Barker.
- Jim knows it isn't his cab and probably belongs to professor Barclay, but decides to take it anyway.
- He tells the driver to wait around the corner (out of sight) and to wait for him there.
- Meanwhile, Professor Barclay comes out of the Ball with his wife and asks Jim if he's seen any cabs.
- Jim's all like "Nope, haven't seen nothin" and we're all like, "You're a sly one, Jim Dixon."
- After an anxious wait, Christine actually shows up.
- Jim takes her down the street and cuts through an alley with her to find the cab he's stolen from Barclay.
- Christine doesn't seem to mind that he's stolen the cab.
- There's a problem, though. The taxi driver thinks they're going to the Barclays' house, which isn't that far.
- The Welches' live out of town and there isn't enough gas in the car to make it. Jim eventually convinces the driver to make the drive and to stop for gas along the way.
