Character Analysis
Harriet Bulstrode is Mr. Bulstrode's wife and Mr. Vincy's sister. She's an odd character: she likes wearing bright and fashionable clothes and making social visits, but she also tries to incorporate her husband's strict religious teachings into her everyday life. After the scandal about how Mr. Bulstrode made his money before coming to Middlemarch is made public, she resolves to stay with him and share his public shame.
