  • Ofelia brings the mandrake root into her mother's room, puts it in a bowl of fresh milk, and crawls under her bed where she bites her finger and gives it two drops of her blood.
  • Suddenly, Vidal and the doctor come in.
  • The doctor's excited that Carmen's fever has been reduced. But Vidal tells him that, if he has to make a choice between his wife and his son, he should choose his son, which will bear his name and the name of his father.
  • There are some explosions of some kind so he rushes outside to see what all the ruckus is.
  • Ofelia comes from under the bed and talks to her brother.
  • She tells him he will love their mother who is beautiful even if she is often said.
  • She asks him not to hurt her mother during childbirth. If he doesn't, she'll make him a prince in her kingdom.
